The Evolution of the Burberry Purse – A Timeline

The Woman Behind the Burberry Purse: Rose Marie Bravo

Rose Marie Bravo left Saks Fifth Avenue in New York in 1997 and became CEO of Burberry. It was she who made Burberry cool and hip again with Burberry bikinis, Burberry shirts, Burberry bandannas and, of course, Burberry purses. Thanks to Bravo, 2001 showed Burberry as having the highest profits in its century-long history. This was due in large part to the wild success of the Bravo inspired line of Burberry purses. In July 2006, however, Bravo will be replaced by Liz Claiborne's Angela Ahrendts as CEO who will, no doubt, create a line of Burberry fashion and purses all her own.

The Man Who Took the Burberry Purse by the Straps: Christopher Bailey

Christopher Bailey, the designer behind the fabulous Burberry purse as well as all other Burberry designs, came on board under Rose Marie Bravo in June 2001. Thanks to Bailey influence, Burberry has evolved into a line characterized by contemporary fabrics and finishes, appealing to a whole new generation. And Bailey took this new Burberry to the United States in 2002 by overseeing the start-up of the New York Burberry store, where you can find Burberry trench coats, scarves, and outer wear as well as Burberry purses, hand bags, and totes.

The New Burberry Line – Thomas Burberry

Introduced in the middle of 2003, the new Burberry line, Thomas Burberry, has been a huge hit with the younger crowd. Casual yet classy, Thomas Burberry was created for a generation who needs comfort and style. Denim, wool, and canvas characterize the Thomas Burberry purses, clothes, and accessories.

Burberry Style – fall and winter, 2003

Burberry purses, action wear, and eveningwear is an updated version of many of Burberry's signature pieces. Pastels, pure white, and solid black – you can find a Burberry purse to match just about anything. Neutrality was the keyword for the season and that has permeated through to the Burberry purses of today.
