History of Burberry - Page 2

Another remarkable step in the history of Burberry was the awarding of The Royal Warrant by Her Majesty the Queen in 1955. The Prince of Wales awarded an additional Royal Warrant in1989. By 1967, the Burberry check was being used in a variety of items, including luggage, scarves, umbrellas, and other accessories. Initially, Burberry clothing was considered a luxury, a sign of wealth and conservatism, primarily associated with the upper class, royalty, and older women - but this began to change. The soccer clubs, young musicians and bands and other groups soon joined the aristocrats in wearing Burberry merchandise. As a result, the baseball cap, worn by such groups, was discarded in 2004, and the conspicuous display of the Burberry emblem logo was reduced to 20%, then 5%, and only 70% remains on its handbags.

Another milestone in the history of Burberry was reached when they opened a flagship store in 1970 on East 57th Street in New York City, which is still there today. As a result of the growing retail business in the United States, Burberry took the initiative and established stores in San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., as well as in Michigan, Manhasset, New Jersey, and Costa Mesa, California. It wasn’t long in the history of Burberry until people from all walks of life wanted to own something from Burberry. In the subsequent years of the history of Burberry, a number of stores were opened in Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Nevada.

The introduction of new management in 1997 added a new direction to the history of Burberry. Several innovative designs were introduced, product lines were expanded, and further enhancement of the popular Burberry collections was added through extensive advertising. Two years later, they staged their first catwalk modeling show during London Fashion Week, receiving the prestigious honor of the British Classic Collection Design of the year. A worldwide flagship store was established at New Bond Street in London’s fashionable West End in 2000. At the beginning of the 21st century, Burberry was once again honored by the British Fashion Council for the continuing appeal of their Classic and Contemporary Collections.
